Mind your language

The Age’s single editorial (9/1/2013) condemned a financial hoax as “terrorism”.

Was this prank more terroristic than the notorious 2007 Electorate of Lindsay pamphlet when Liberal Party volunteers distributed fake election pamphlets, aiming to provoke and exacerbate Islamophobia?

Which hoax was more likely to provoke violence? A Google search revealed no Age editorial condemning the Liberal provocation as terroristic.

The media have a duty to discountenance antisocial behaviour. The media also have a duty to use language correctly and consistently. Language is the most valuable resource of the media. The Age does itself a disservice by misusing it.
